UNIT 2

The second Unit in the ‘Fightback’ resource has been designed to enable students to build an in-depth understanding of the process of objectification and the way in which it impacts young people, particularly young women. The unit assists students to understand some of the key underlying concepts of objectification, such as sexualisation and the notion of passive/active subjects, to investigate the role of the media in the objectification of bodies and to consider the physical and psychological impacts of objectification. The FHS Feminist Collective’s poster ‘What Objectification Does to the Body’ features in this latter class. Unit Two also encourages students to recognise the connection between the practice of objectification and violence against women and poses suggestions for being ‘part of the solution’.
