The first Unit in the ‘Fightback’ resource investigates the concept of gender and gender inequality, the notion of privilege, and the role of feminism in addressing inequality. It introduces students to the concept of sex/gender, encourages exploration of the imbalances that currently exist between the sexes, and asks students to interrogate their own relationship to gender inequality. The unit also introduces students to the concepts of marginalisation or intersectionality. Unit 1 is intended to establish a basic understanding of gender inequality prior to commencing Units 2 and 3 in the resource, but it also works as a stand-alone unit.
